About
Terry Dwyer is a Bronx, New York native who served over 24 years in law enforcement, with 22 of those years in the New York State Police as a Trooper and an Investigator. From there he spent several years as an attorney representing police officers. When he is not writing, Terry is a tenured professor teaching legal studies at Western Connecticut State University.
Since grammar school, Terry has been writing creatively—mainly short stories and plays—and began his professional journey in his 20s as a part-time local sports reporter. He subsequently published and edited a subscription-based newsletter, then a law blog prior to joining Police1.com as a featured columnist. Terry has written three textbooks, numerous articles, and several plays that have been regionally produced.
He formerly served as an Associate Editor for the Scribes Journal, as a Scripts Editor for River & South Review, and as a Graduate Assistant for Blue Moon Plays. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild, Playwrights Center, Association of Writers & Writing Programs, Textbook and Academic Authors Association, the National Writers Union, the Public Safety Writers Association, Irish American Writers and Artists Association, Mystery Writers of America, Crimes Writers' Association, and International Association of Crime Writers of North America.
Terry received a B.A. in English Literature from Fordham University, an M.A. in Creative Non-fiction and a Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Wilkes University, and a J.D. from Pace University Haub School of Law. Admitted to the practice of law in Connecticut and New York, Terry retired from his law practice in 2022. He resides in Connecticut with his wife Joan. They have three children and seven grandchildren. In his free time Terry enjoys boating, exploring hiking trails around the northeast, running, traveling, and spending time with family.
